Nakia Belmer and Ian Wright Nakia Belmer is currently a PhD student at Western Sydney University. Nakia’s thesis investigates the impacts of coal mining wastewater discharges on their respective waterways throughout the Sydney Basin. Ian Wright is a senior lecturer at Western Sydney University and is Nakia’s PhD supervisor. Ian has over two decades of experience in urban waterway management and coal mining impacts to waterways.
